The Liebster Award

i have been awarded the Liebster Award by Julie at Thimble Fingers! it is an award for blogs with less than 200 followers, that the awarder likes.

The Liebster Convention states that:
1. Thank your award presenter on your blog and link back to him/her.

2. Copy and paste the award to your blog.

3. Present the award to 5 blogs (with less than 200 followers that you love).

4. Leave a comment on their blog to let them know.

5. Have faith that those award winners will spread the blog love.

i am truly honoured for this but it does smack of a Friendship cake!!! and what a responsibility. many of the blogs i follow seem to have more than 200 followers so watch this space for my 5 favourites.

field of jeans and a few kilts!

as part of Edinburgh's Science Festival this year i caught up with the 'Field of Jeans' and a lecture on 'Catalytic clothing',a collaboration between Helen Storey and Professor Tony Ryan. Basically and very briefly they are working towards producing a washing solution that would leave clothes washed in it with a catalytic layer that would help purify the air.
you wouldn't need to be as static as their installation, simply walk around and help the environment. i am interested in all the 'dry clean only' clothing that are produced; Helen Storey was wearing a very beautiful Vivienne Westwood which i wouldn't have thought would have a 30 degree wash symbol on it!
however it is an interesting idea although i am not 100 percent convinced by it as it would rely on the consumer to take an active role but interesting to see where it leads them. They are giving a talk at the Stroud Textile Festival in May.

Easter Holidays sketchbook

so not to be idle over Easter whilst i was away i set myself a small project based very loosely on 'lace'. the plan was to take one thing i had seen each day and turn it into a cut-out. as it progressed i used the cut-outs as stencils on the following page. armed with my scalpel and inspired by a visit to the Edinburgh laser Studio(more in another post)the following are the results.
trees
corrugated card, although it could just as well have been rain or even snow on the bus window
street grills
Egyptian mummy wrappings
old ledger
hog weed
Easter eggs
and the most beautiful painting of gros point lace i have ever seen. must try and keep it up now i am back!
